  1. Michelle Ferdinand won an Outstanding Poster Award in the 2009 Biological Mathematical Physical Sciences Undergraduate Research Forum.
  2. Christopher Smith was awarded a place in the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Summer REU Program for 2009.  
  3. Christopher Smith won a Department of Biochemistry SURP award to support his research in summer 2009.
  4. John Shimko won 2nd Place in the Hayes Graduate Research Forum Poster Competition.
  5. Jennifer Ottesen was awarded an American Cancer Society Seed Grant through the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center IRG to study histone phosphorylation in chromatin remodeling.
  6. Jennifer Ottesen was awarded the 2008 Dean’s Award for Undergraduate Research Mentoring
  7. Michelle Ferdinand won a Department of Biochemistry SURP award to support her research in summer 2008.

  9. John Shimko was selected to present at the SciMix poster session on the opening night of CERMACS 2008.

  11. Mridula Manohar was awarded a B.S. in Biochemistry with Honors and Magna cum Laude, March 16, 2008. Dula will continue in our laboratory as an M.S. student in Biochemistry.
  12. Jennifer Ottesen was selected as one of OSU’s two nominees to compete for the Packard Foundation Fellowship in Science and Engineering
  13. John Shimko was awarded the 2007 Dean’s Award for Excellence as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for his work in Biochemistry 613, 614, and 521.

  1. Chris Smith and Eric Fredrickson joined the Ottesen Laboratory through the Biochemistry H201 undergraduate research program in April 2009.

  3. Mridula Manohar (M.S. 2009) has accepted a job offer as a Beauty R&D Researcher from Proctor & Gamble, beginning summer 09.
  4. June 25, 2008  Happy First Birthday to lab baby Serena Rose Shimko!
  5. June 15-20, 2008  Jennifer Ottesen attended the Bioorganic GRC.  She presented a poster, and served as a Discussion Leader.
  6. June 11-14, CERMACS 2008 was held in Columbus, OH. Jennifer Ottesen presided over a session in Peptide and Protein Engineering, and presented a talk.  John Shimko and Mridula Manohar each presented posters; John was selected for the SciMix opening session at COSI.
  7. Stacy Baker has been admitted to the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
  8. Annick Edon was admitted to the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She will be leaving us for her new program in June.
  9. Stacy Baker is joining our laboratory as Research Assistant. Stacy earned an honors degree from OSU in 2008; she performed her research in the Dalton laboratory. Welcome Stacy.
  10. Fernando Rosado will be joining our laboratory for the summer through the NSF-REU program in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics.  Fernando is a student at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus.
  11. June 2008: Dula has completed her term as Vice-President of the Biochemistry Club. Congratulations on a successful year!
  12. May 17, 2008: John Shimko presented a poster at the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program research forum.
