Graduate Training in Biochemistry and Chemical Biology

Feel free to contact Prof. Magliery to discuss admission to Ohio State or joining the lab. All graduate students must apply through the normal application procedures in the links below; there is no direct admission.

The Magliery lab is actively searching for 1-2 graduate students in 2013-2014. Contact Prof. Magliery to discuss opportunities for rotations and joining the lab.

Undergraduate Research

Undergraduates wishing to gain experience in biochemistry research and willing to make a long-term commitment to the lab are encouraged to apply. Applicants should ideally have completed organic chemistry (e.g., 2510-2520) and at least concurrently be enrolled in biochemistry (e.g., 4511 or 5613) or molecular genetics (e.g., 4500). Applicants currently enrolled in organic chemistry with some biology background (e.g., 1113, 1114) will be considered. Please apply only if you intend to work in the lab for at least 9 months (3 quarters/2 semesters). Research over more than one academic year including at least one summer is preferred, and writing a thesis for research distinction is encouraged. Students typically work for credit (499x, typically 3 credit hours for 15+ h/week) during the academic year and for pay for full-time research (40+ h/week) during the summer. Note that it is not usually possible to take summer classes while doing full time research. Contact Dr. Magliery with a C.V./resume and advising report to apply. Please have at least one person who is familiar with your scientific ability (such as a former research advisor or science professor) email a letter of recommedation directly to Dr. Magliery.

Prof. Magliery strongly encourages applications at all levels from underrepresented minorities and women.
