CBC's Angie Miller presents "Cool Chemistry" at Science Cafe

Children watching science demo

The College of Arts & Sciences holds a series of events entitled “Science Café”. Science Cafés are held throughout the year at various libraries around Columbus including a number of scientists and doctors who want to spread their passions into the community. Our very own Chemist, Angie Miller, presented to nearly 100 children and their parents at the most recent Science Café at Worthington Library on July 25. Angie’s presentation was titled “Cool Chemistry”, where she presented a series of demos which taught the children and their parents how much the atmosphere really weighs, about air pressure, and she even brought liquid nitrogen to pour over balloons; which, in end, freezes. Miller stated, “The air pressure demos are really relatable for kids and adults because they are really familiar with things like pressure, wind, boiling, space, etc., and I can use that as a jumping off point to teach them about some unfamiliar things.” Angie’s favorite part of the presentation is the end, where she calls upon 10 children to ask questions and/or see a demo again. Some kids even have ideas of their own they want to test! Miller leaves the children and their families with periodic table magnets, and a flyer with DIY experiments at home! This was Miller's third time presenting at Science Cafe. Thank you, Angie, for spreading your knowledge and talent to our future!Angie Miller presenting science demo
