Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Tutoring

General Chemistry Success Centers

Student enrolled in General Chemistry have access to multiple Success Centers staffed by teaching assistants dedicated to helping students succeed in the course.

  • Lecture Support: The Learning Resource Center (LRC), located in Celeste Lab 170, focuses on lecture-related topics. Here, students can receive personalized assistance, clarify concepts from lectures, and ask individual questions about course material.
  • Laboratory Support: For help with lab-related content, students should visit Celeste Lab 205 or 305, depending on the course they are enrolled in.

Schedules for the LRC, Celeste 205, and Celeste 305 are available on the CHEM Carmen pages for students currently enrolled in General Chemistry.

We strongly encourage students to take full advantage of these resources to enhance their understanding and performance in both the lecture and laboratory components of General Chemistry courses. To make the most of your visits:

  • Come prepared with specific questions or topics.
  • Bring your course materials.
  • Be ready to actively engage in the learning process.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dr. Daniel Turner, Student Learning Specialist, at turner.707@osu.edu.

Students enrolled in CHEM 1910H and 1920H should contact their TA regarding office hours.

Organic Chemistry Assistance

Information about support resources for Organic Chemistry is currently being updated. At this time, students should refer to their course syllabi and Carmen course pages for the most accurate and up-to-date details regarding office hours, help sessions, and other academic support options.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. Updated information will be posted here when it becomes available.

Other Resources at Ohio State

There are many programs across the university that also provide tutoring as a part of their mission. Some of these resources are outlined on the Academic Success page.

Private Tutoring

While there are many free resources for OSU students, the CBC Undergraduate Studies Office also maintains a list of individuals who have indicated their interest in tutoring students privately.  All arrangements, including payment, are handled independently by the student and the tutor. This is provided as a courtesy to interested parties; tutors are not specifically endorsed by the department.

  • For General Chemistry courses, the tutor list is posted in your Carmen course.
  • For Organic Chemistry courses, ask your instructor for more information.
  • Physical copies of the list are available in the Undergraduate Office, Celeste 110.

Please note: The list will only be provided to students currently enrolled in General Chemistry at Ohio State.
