The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry gives out annual awards to the top chemistry and biochemistry students. Below are descriptions of the CBC Undergraduate Awards that are given out each year:
Freshman Chemistry Award: This award recognizes a top student in the honors general chemistry sequence (CHEM 1910H/1920H).
Sophomore Organic Chemistry Award: This award recognizes a top student in the honors organic chemistry sequence (CHEM 2510H/2520H).
ACS Columbus Chapter - Junior and Senior Chemistry Achievement Awards: This award is given to one Junior and one Senior by the American Chemical Society Columbus Chapter. The award is determined by the student's GPA, research involvement, and faculty recommendations. In addition to a department certificate, the ACS Columbus chapter generously provides cash awards to the Junior and Senior recipients.
ACS Division of Organic Chemistry - Undergraduate Award in Organic Chemistry: This award recognizes a top student majoring in either chemistry or biochemistry who has demonstrated excellence in organic chemistry based on a combination of research experience, coursework, and a desire to pursue a career in chemistry.
ACS Division of Analytical Chemistry- Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemistry: This award recognizes a top student who has completed at least one semster of Analytical Chemistry and demonstrates outstanding achievement in analytical chemistry research.
ACS Division of Inorganic Chemistry- Undergraduate Award in Inorganic Chemistry: This award in intended to recongize achivement by undergraduate students in inorganic chemistry and to encourage further study in the field.
ACS Division of Physical Chemistry- Undergraduate Award in Physical Chemistry: This award recognizes outstanding achievement by an undergraduate student in physical chemistry who is committed to a career in chemistry.
Partners for Progress and Prosperity: This award is given to an outstanding undergraduate researcher in honor of the memory of Professor Devon W. Meek. The award recipient receives a gold medal.
Irene Rosenfeld Scientific Achievement Award: This award is presented annually to one or more top graduating senior(s) majoring in biochemistry who have accomplished an outstanding level of academic achievement in the sciences. In addition to a department certificate, the recipient(s) receive a cash award.
Undergraduate Student Teacher- Rookie of the Year Award: This award is given to a chemistry or biochemistry major who exhibits exemplary performance as a new undergraduate teaching assistant in General Chemistry. The awardee is selected based on recommendations from our faculty, teaching staff, and students.
Distinguished Undergraduate Student Teacher Award: This award is given to a chemistry or biochemistry major who exhibits exemplary performance serving as an experienced undergraduate teaching assistant in General Chemistry. The awardee is selected based on recommendations from our faculty, teaching staff, and students.
Distinguished Organic Student Teacher Award: This award is given to a chemistry or biochemistry major who exhibits exemplary performance serving as a TA in one or more of our organic chemistry courses. The awardee is selected based on recommendations from our faculty, teaching staff, and students.
