Biochemistry and Chemistry are demanding, rigorous disciplines, yet satisfying for students interested in chemistry and chemical life processes. Students interested in either major should have a solid background in math and science, particularly chemistry, physics, and biology, as well as good verbal and written communication skills. Scientific curiosity and the ability to think both logically and creatively are also characteristics of successful majors.
If you think you might be interested in majoring in chemistry or biochemistry, spend some time on our CBC Undergraduate Program Blog, where we post information about department events, spotlights on outstanding students, instructors, and alumni, as well as job postings, internships, and research opportunities. Any student admitted to Ohio State can declare a chemistry or biochemistry major or minor. High school applicants and transfer students can indicate either chemisry or biochemistry as their desired major on their application.
Current Ohio State students who want to change their major to chemistry or biochemistry, or add either as a minor, should schedule an appointment with an advisor in the CBC Undergraduate Office.
