CBC Scholarships

The Gary Booth Scholarship Fund, established in 2007, provides full tuition need-based scholarships for in-state sophomore, junior, and senior students who have declared a major in Chemistry or Biochemistry and have the potential for graduate work.

 

The Raymond and Laura Goodrich Undergraduate Scholarship Fund, established in 2011, provides full academic-year scholarships for undergraduate students majoring in Chemistry or Biochemistry who are involved in research.

 

The Gary G. Marconi Scholarship Fund in Chemistry was established in 2004. The income from this endowment provides a scholarship to a junior or senior undergraduate Chemistry major pursuing the American Chemical Society accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Multiple awards are given by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry to qualified students, taking into account their career goals, ambitions in the field of Chemistry, grades, rank, and financial need.

 

The Wheasler Family Scholarship Fund was established in 2012 by Dr. Ray Wheasler (BS 1979) and Mrs. Glenna Wheasler (MS 1978, MS 1979). The annual distribution of this endowment provides financial aid for one undergraduate student majoring in Chemistry or Biochemistry.

 

The Bertram Thomas Memorial Fund was established in 2006 in honor of the only person to have served both as president of Battelle and on the Board of Trustees of The Ohio State University.  Dr. Thomas passed away in 2004 at the age of 100, and was involved in a number of Battelle’s most significant accomplishments during his 50-year affiliation with the research and development giant.  The fund supports five scholarships each year, and is aimed at outstanding junior or senior undergraduate Chemistry majors, with particular attention to, but not limited to, minority students.

 

This fund was established in 1974, with a bequest from Ruth Regina Hale Canaga, in memory of her husband, Wilber Waight Canaga, to provide scholarships for deserving, intelligent students with an interest in Biochemistry.

 

Through a generous donation from the ACS-Hach Foundation, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is able to offer scholarships to two Chemistry majors each year who are interested in teaching careers at the K-12 level. The ACS-Hach Foundation seeks to assist in our national need for highly qualified Chemistry teachers by providing these scholarships to qualified candidates. Award amount: $10,000 per year, renewable until graduation with reapplication.

 

The James McFarling Endowment Scholarship Fund was established in 1994, by OSU alumni Kenneth and Luanne Prudhoe Lashutka, with the assistance of the A.W. Fenton Company, Inc.  In 1969, Kenneth received his BS in Business Administration and Luanne received her BS in Nursing.  The Vice Chair of Undergraduate Studies selects the appropriate candidates, giving preference to hard-working junior or senior Chemistry majors. This scholarship seeks to prepare students for success in professional fields.

 

Mrs. Jean Hamilton MacNevin, and others, established the William Marshall MacNevin Memorial Fund scholarship in 1963, in memory of her husband.  The awards are presented to undergraduate Chemistry majors, based on grades, rank, and financial need.

 

The Chellis Family Scholarship Fund was established in 2014, by Dr. Mary Lebamoff Chellis, who received her BA in Chemistry from The Ohio State University in 1988. The annual distribution from this fund is used to provide merit-based scholarships for students majoring in Chemistry. The scholarship will be awarded with particular attention to, but not limited to, students who are United States citizens or residents.

 

The Kraska Endowed Chemistry Scholarship Fund was established in 2016 by Dr. Allen Kraska and Ms. Joanne Kraska. Dr. Allen Kraska received his BS in Chemistry in 1967 and PhD in 1971, and Ms. Joanne Kraska received her MA in Education in 1961, all from The Ohio State University. This fund is intended to provide merit-based scholarships to Chemistry and Biochemistry majors.

 

The Mark and Colleen Nagel Scholarship Fund was established in 2016 in order to provide scholarship support to undergraduate students majoring in Chemistry, with preference for female students with demonstrated financial need.

 

The Dr. Robert and Cynthia Aurand Endowed Scholarship Fund provides a tuition-only scholarship to chemistry junior or senior with a minimum 3.2 GPA. 

 

The Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) Endowment Fund was established in 2008, with initial seed gifts from the CAS division of The American Chemical Society and additional gifts from their staff and others interested in supporting research in chemistry. This fund is to support students doing undergraduate research in the department of chemistry and biochemistry.

 

The Robert C. Wang Fund provides research awards to undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences who are Pre-Med and majoring in Chemistry.
