Congratulations to Dr. Wu, whose work on solar water-splitting was recently featured in C&EN. Dr. Wu and his team have created a dye that forms a sort of protective lipid-bilayer structure, which thus prevents dye-based cells from decomposing in acidic conditions. The increased longevity of the cells will help boost the production of clean-burning hydrogen.
