Decontamination Requirements for CBC Labs
Equipment that may have come in contact with biohazardous, radioactive or chemical materials must be decontaminated before any move, disposal or repair.
Biohazardous
Labs need to decontaminate any equipment with a biohazardous label, that may have been in contact with biohazardous materials or was used in a BSL-2 lab.
Biosafety Cabinets
If BSC’s needs to be moved or sent to surplus, it must be gas decontaminated by an approved vendor. Contact CBC facilities for more information on a vendor.
Once the BSC has been moved into its new location, it must be recertified by an approved vendor.
Other Equipment or instrumentation
Clean the equipment or instrumentation by using an EPA approved Tuberculocidal disinfectant and required contact time for that disinfectant.
Lab equipment and instrumentation is considered free from biohazard when it has been properly disinfected, biohazard labels removed and cleared by CBC Safety Staff.
Radioactive
Labs need to decontaminate any equipment with a radioactive material label, that may have been in contact with radioactive materials. CBC labs will reach out to EHS for clearance.
Hazardous chemicals
