Billy McCulloch of the Wu Group Wins Presidential Fellowship

Billy McCulloch

Please join us in congratulating our very own Billy McCulloch who has received a Presidential Fellowship in the Spring 2017 competition! The Ohio State University Presidential Fellowship is the most prestigious award given by the Graduate School for outstanding scholarship. Recipients of this award embody the highest standards of scholarship in the full range of Ohio State's graduate programs. This fellowship goes towards supporting the fellow in their final year of dissertation work.  Out of a pool of 10,000, Billy is one of only 24 of OSU's graduate students who was recognized in this biannual competition.

Originally from Nelsonville, Billy came to Ohio State’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in 2013. Before that he received his BS in chemistry and mathematics from Marietta College right here in Ohio. While at Marietta, he was honored as a Division III All-American in the 4 X 100 m relay. Billy has since joined Yiying Wu’s lab, where he is currently studying the development of “K-air” potassium ion oxygen batteries that stand to revolutionize large scale energy storage, as well as the integration of that battery technology with solar cell technology. Billy is interested in both electrochemical energy storage and photoelectrical chemistry and is currently working on developing new solar batteries.
