Congratulations to Professor Terry Miller on receiving the Honorary Membership Award from the Society For Applied Spectroscopy. This award is given to recognize individuals for their exceptional contributions to the field of spectroscopy and is the highest award given by SAS. He will be presented his award at SAS’s 2017 National Meeting in October. In regards to Dr. Miller, SAS President, Greg Klunder, stated “Your research involving the spectroscopic detection and characterization of short-lived molecular species in combustion, atmospheric chemistry, and plasmas using laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy, resonantly enhanced multi-photon ionization spectroscopy, cavity ring down spectroscopy, zero electron kinetic energy spectroscopy, and submillimeter wave spectroscopy were cited as key reasons for your selection. Additionally, your many research accomplishments including the determination via anti-crossing spectroscopy of the singlet-triplet splitting in He, H2, D2, He2 and the doublet-quartet splitting in CN, as well as the first observation and analyses of the laser induced fluorescence (LIF) spectra of more than thirty diatomic and aromatic molecular ions and numerous alkoxy and peroxy radicals, and significant research achievements in the reconciliation of the theoretical understanding and experimental observations of the Jahn-Teller effect in about a dozen free radical neutrals and ions were major factors in awarding you this honor”. What an honor, Dr. Miller, congratulations!
